The Minneapolis Sports Hall of Fame was the brain child of Jack Larzalere (Minneapolis High School Class of 1956).  The USD 239 Board of Education approved utilizing space in Minneapolis  High School to display the Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.  At the recommendation of Terry Moeckel (MHS Activities Director), Jack enlisted the assistance of local sports enthusiast, historian and broadcaster - Dale Leech (MHS Class of 1970) to help secure information and supportive data about potential nominees.

NOTE: As of 2019, we will submit individual nominees to our voters from North Ottawa County (Minneapolis High School School District since 1966) as Minneapolis High School is the High School for this District.  Thus individuals who are Alumni of Ada and Delphos High Schools and/or those who resided in North Ottawa County can be nominated/inducted.

A ballot of nominees to the Hall of Fame is prepared and presented to the voters of our Selection Committee who reside across the state of Kansas and the United States.  These voters make their selections and return the ballots for tabulation for the next class of annual inductees to the Minneapolis Hall of Fame.  Currently the Selection Committee consists of 19 members.  Of these, 15 went to Minneapolis High School and competed in athletics, 10 reside in Minneapolis, 9 reside in the Kansas City Metro area, 16 have College Degrees, 6 have Advanced College Degrees, and 9 competed in athletics while attending college.  The current members of the Selection Committee are: Terry Moeckel, Mike Berkley, Ralph McFillen, Dick Todd, Eldin Smith, Cliff Johns, Erik Shupe, Brent Larzalere, Jan Martin, Mark Allison, Linda Shea Smith, Ryan Wedel, Drew Wedel, Dan Matt, Ryan Mortimer, Julie Comfort McCullick, Cody Parks, Jack Larzalere, Mike Perry and Daniel Leech.
